Udine, only 40 minutes by car from Villa Luppis, is nicknamed “City of Tiepolo” due to the presence of notable masterpieces by this important painter. The imposing castle complex, now a museum, dominates the city from above.
Next to it stands the church of S. Maria di Castello, the oldest in Udine.
The Gothic-Venetian arcade leads to the splendid Piazza Libertà , the heart of the city, where the most important monuments are located, including the famous Loggia del Lionello.
Also worth a visit are the Church of S. Giacomo and the Cathedral, one of the buildings that houses works by Tiepolo.
