Framed by the karst plateau and overlooking the sea, Trieste preserves the remains of different historical periods: the remains of the Roman era, the ancient villages of the medieval city and the elegant nineteenth-century buildings in neoclassical or liberty style, commissioned by the empress Maria Teresa d ‘ Austria.
In the city, in addition to the various museums, the Castle of San Giusto and the 14th-century Cathedral of the same name, which preserves precious apsidal mosaics, are worth a visit.
Nearby, the fabulous Miramare Castle with its park, the Grotta Gigante and the karst plateau with its suggestive paths.
